Meeting Description:
Against the background of the UN Declaration of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages 2022-2032, this 2-day hybrid workshop to be held at Newcastle University on 7 and 8 May 2024 aims to be a meeting point for people working for the revitalisation and documentation of indigenous and minoritised languages from Latin America from different points of view: research, activism, pedagogy, and practice for global linguistic justice. This symposium will bring together researchers, activists, language professionals, and students to foster a global and interdisciplinary dialogue and exchange of ideas, experiences, and research on issues related to language revitalisation, documentation, and sociolinguistic justice in Latin America. We can confirm contributions to Indigenous language reclamation in Latin America from Ecuador, Peru, Mexico, Chile, and El Salvador, including keynote talks by Emerita Professor Rosaleen Howard (Newcastle University) and Professor Marleen Haboud (Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador).
