More than half the world's population use two or more languages in their
everyday lives, and may therefore be defined as bilingual. Bilinguals are
found in all countries of the world, in all classes of society and in all
age groups. The bilingual person is now the subject of wide-ranging and
influential research, but to date there has been no journal that focuses
exclusively on this topic.
Bilingualism: Language and Cognition, an international peer-reviewed
journal to be launched by Cambridge University Press, has been specifically
designed to fulfil this role. The first issue will be published in early
1998, and the journal will be published three times a year.
=46ocusing on the bilingual person, Bilingualism will publish articles that
deal with the following domains: bilingual language competence, perception
and production, language acquisition (in children and adults),
neurolinguistics of bilingualism (in normal and brain-damaged subjects), as
well as non-linguistic cognitive processes in bilinguals. Articles will
reflect fundamental research and will use the various approaches and
methodologies currently applied in cognitive science.
Each issue will contain an article accompanied by peer commentaries, in
addition to research articles, notes, and commentaries on previously
published papers.
The Editors of Bilingualism will be supported by a distinguished Editorial
Board of leading researchers working in the field of language and cognition
in bilinguals.
A call for papers will be distributed in the early months of 1997. For
further information on Bilingualism, please contact Cambridge University

Dear readers,
I would like to announce a new web page with information about the
forthcoming publication _Code-Switching in Conversation_, edited by Peter
Auer (London, Routledge, November 1997). The volume emerged from the
Colloquy on Code-Switching held in Hamburg in February, 1995.
The page includes:
-Volume Presentation, by Peter Auer
-Table of Contents
-Abstracts of individual chapters
-Contributors' e-mail and regular addresses
-A link to Routledge Online
-Forum, a section aimed at starting an on-line debate on code-switching.
The URL address for Code-Switching in Conversation is:
http://www.udc.es/dep/lx/cac/c-s
(the "l" in "lx" is a lower-case "L", not a number "1").
We hope you enjoy the page,
